How do we start using Restorative Practice?
I always ask my clients what they want to achieve? If they are unsure, I can advise and assist them in coming up with a strategy that meets the size of their organisation and budget. In my experience, size does not matter. When I began Restorative Practice 7 years ago, many people had not heard of Restorative Justice. Police managers were unsure if it would work so I was given two members of staff and told "see what you can do with it!". They now have one of the largest and most successful Restorative Justice Hubs in the UK. Everyone has to start somewhere, and knowing where or how to start is often the biggest challenge of all.
I am fortunate to work with some of the best RJ Practitioners and clients around, and would love for you to become a partner. At a time of austerity, Police Services are often cautious of investing finances and staff in new ventures. With 27 years of experience in Policing and beginning my Restorative Justice practice in a policing environment I understand this caution. I can help show you how this investment can easily be justified, and show you the cost benefits this will bring by significantly reducing demand and improving victim satisfaction.
I have worked closely with care homes and children's services across the Midlands to create a restorative practice ethos amongst their staff and know how to prevent the unnecessary criminalisation of children in care. Restorative Practice within a care setting teaches young people how to resolve conflict without the need for violence.
Conflict and Communication Breakdown within families often results in calls to emergency services or health care for help. Using Restorative Practice within the family prevents unnecessary conflict and restores communication and relationships.
I began my journey into Restorative Justice working in partnership with one of the largest RSL in the Midlands to resolve the high levels of anti-social behaviour. This has been so successful they have now embedded this work into daily business creating their own RJ Practitioner. Evidence will show that it saves money, saves staff time, improves customer satisfaction and is a quicker and easier route than the traditional "revolving door" methods.
Restorative Practice in Schools is growing across the UK. Having a Restorative ethos is a significant shift away from the traditional disciplinarian methods but has outstanding results on attendance and staff & student well-being. The benefits also include improved conflict resolution and communication. We can teach our children a different way of resolving conflict that they can then take into adult life.
"give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime".
Would you like a quicker and easier way to resolve internal grievances and external complaints? Restorative Practice has been successful in organisations resolve conflict quickly and easily with greatly improved satisfaction levels.
